L'amour de Dieu est folie!

It is a little early, but the words, “L'amour de Dieu est folie!” are actually an Easter Liturgy commonly used in France. From what I have read it was common in France to share it as a greeting with anyone you passed on Easter day. It was also written on buildings, busses and all about town. I stumbled upon these words recently as I was reading through, “The Furious Longing of God” by Brennon Manning. It was such a wonderful reminder that the love God has for us is so vast and crazy. We as humans can only catch glimpses and snatches of the true power, might, and majesty of our Father’s love for us. We get a small picture of what God is doing in 1 Corinthians 1:21, “For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe.” The passage goes on to say that the death and resurrection of Christ are total foolishness to just about everyone. The same can be said for the Christmas story as well. It really is a crazy story, but because we know and believe it is true we get a glimpse of God’s love and we can say with joy and praise, “The love of God is folly.” We have not earned God’s love, we don’t deserve it, but He loves us furiously anyway. “God was pleased through the foolishness…” God is enjoying loving you in His own unknowable way. I like to imagine Him smiling and chuckling as He overwhelms us with His love. My prayer for all is that you can experience, “L'amour de Dieu est folie!” and rest in that joy, peace, grace, and love.
