Women's Day Apart
To all the Women of our Church and Beyond: On Saturday, October 6th you are invited to a special Women’s Day Apart. This will be a marvelous time to rejuvenate, renew, and restore your spirit. Our theme for the day is ‘KISS: Keep it Simple Sisters’ : Practicing Minimalism in a Complicated World. I’ll be walking you through a variety of ways we can clear the channels to God’s Grace, which are almost always blocked by clutter: 1. Physical clutter maintained through our possessions, rampant materialism and consumerism 2. Emotional clutter created by our virtual world, harnessing us to screens and images instead of substantive relationships and people. 3. Spiritual Clutter which naturally accumulates when we can’t slow down, get quiet, or sit with ourselves. I will provide all participants with a variety of tools that will help you get rid of your ‘stuff,’ whether it’s the closet full of clothes you never wear, the pruning of your iPhone apps and Facebook ‘friends’, or teaching you spiritual exercises for deeper discernment into God’s desires for your over-crowded life. It is said that only when we rid ourselves of the extraneous, will the essential rise to the surface. I mean, maybe the life you’ve always wanted is buried under everything you own. Or maybe your hands are already too full to take what God has to offer? The workshop will run from 10:00-3:00, and will be held at Gateway Community Church. Our schedule will be: 10:00- 10:30 – Welcome with Coffee & Croissants 10:30-12:00 - Material & Virtual Minimalism 12:00-1:00 – Lunch 1:00-2:30 – Spiritual Minimalism 2:30 – 3:00 – Closing Worship Please bring one item of clothing, in good condition, that you want to get rid of as a symbolic move toward more simplicity in your life. All of these items will be donated to the Free Clothes Closet in Media, housed at the Methodist Church on State St. Moms, if you need childcare, please let me know! The facility has a wonderful space for children and I am happy to bring our childcare providers. Our time together will be interactive with plenty of time and space for questions and break-out groups. Please register online at MediaPresbyterian.org/WomensDayApart. Cost is $15 per person. And Remember, Keep it Simple Sisters. Peace, Nikki
